The first time I made this cake, I used a 10" cast iron skillet. The cake was FABULOUS tasting, but made a huge mess in my oven. My own fault! I am making again and using the 9 x 13 pan suggestion (turn out on foil lined cookie sheet) or 12" CI skillet. This is a really good tasting recipe.

I wonder if pre-heating the cast iron skillet prior to baking time and before the pouring of the batter, would alleviate the 'mess'. If you put the iron skillet in cold, it takes a long time to get to the designated temperature??
