"first of all the tamarind chutney is amazing! This was my first time making samosas and it was surprisingly easy and fun. I substituted quite a few things- used pinto beans, barley, and raisins instead of garbanzo, rice, and cranberry since that was what i had in my pantry. Recipe still came out delish. I love Bal and how simple and flavorful her "
"Amazingly delish, healthy, and the flavors are incredible. I have made this recipe so many times- lately been omitting the water and adding garlic and eggs to make an Indian frittata. I adore bal and her recipes- I have yet to make one that wasn’t absolutely fantastic!"
"So easy and delicious- what a great recipe to make quick donuts. I used coconut milk instead of heavy cream and only made a cup of syrup which I reduced to a sticky glaze. The spices made the syrup heavenly. I can not wait to make these again. I make sure the oil is not very hot, otherwise the donuts will get too brown before they cook through."
"Wow- these were surprisingly easy to make! Be sure to thoroughly mash the potatoes so they don’t tear the dough when rolling. I didn’t have fenugreek leaves so used fresh celery leaves and cooked the potatoes in chicken stock. I will definitely be make this again. Served it with the south Indian chicken- amazing!"
"i was going to make this and read the reviews and re-read the recipe. ratio is way off for the brine. its normally 1 cup kosher salt or 3/4 table salt to 1 gallon of water and 1 hour per pound of meat. if you use 1 gallon of water instead of 2 1/2 pints (or 5 cups) i that would solve the salt problem but not the flavor issues.
"I just made a half portion of this recipe last night and WOW- it was amazing. I don't eat mac and cheese and was testing the recipe for Thanksgiving dinner and the kids table and could barely stop myself from eating it. I had to give it to my neighbors so I wouldn't devour the whole thing. I eat very clean and healthy and didn't find this greasy or rich. I used Barilla Plus multigrain pasta elbows for added nutrition and it still tasted just like mac and cheese should. Definitely will be making triple the recipe this Thanksgiving for kids and now adults.
"I just made a dry run of this recipe yesterday. It was just okay. It looked beautiful in my cast iron skillet and was nice and golden brown, light, and fluffy. Unfortunately, I was expecting more of a sweet flavor since its stated in the recipes name and it was very savory. I poured the batter right over the onions without mixing as stated in the directions. I think the herb and onion flavor would have been better distributed with a gentle stir or added to the batter.
