"The flavor was different but good. It was nicely balanced between the sweet from the root beer and the spicy from the blackening mix. I used a nice Porterhouse steak and marinated overnight in root beer. Then I put together the spice rub using all the spices except for the file powder. "This gumbo was delicious. Try to use the freshest veggies you can find and the best quality bacon as well; it really will make a difference. Also, be sure that your potatoes are all roughly the same size to ensure even cooking. I cooked my roux using butter instead of veg oil and it made no difference. Easy recipe and perfect for a cold/ rainy day""
