About Me

I have been cooking since the age of 10. While growing up, my mother prefered my sisters and I not bother her in the kitchen while she was preparing meals. So when my mother was out of the house, I would forever be cooking up something in the kitchen. I wished my mother had spent the time in teaching me how to prepare some of her most wonderful dishes and home baked desserts, as she seldom used a recipe. I wish I had those recipes to pass down to my 3 daughter's.

As a young girl, my mentor was my Aunt Lula, who'm I considered to be "the best" cook in the world. I always enjoyed dining in her home, as she would make a typical Sunday dinner look like a holiday feast. My aunt was a pro at canning and preserving pickles. It was she who inspired me to try my hand at home canning all sorts of pickles, relishes, and vegetables. Sadly my aunt passed away about 10 yrs ago, and I miss her. Because of my aunt, I feel I am the cook I am today. I may not be as good of a cook as she was, as I am still learning, even at my age.

For my family, I like to cook meals that are considered down-home-country-cookin', rather than gourmet. I especially enjoy preparing various kinds of home-cooked soups, iced coffees, iced teas, and making a variety of rhubarb jams, preserves, rhubarb iced tea, rhubarb lemonade, and other various rhubarb desserts in the Spring when rhubarb is available. When making jams or preserves, I prefer to make jams that can be frozen, rather than doing the hot water bath method, so when you check out my recipes, you will see they are all made to be stored in one's freezer, which is easy & quick! Please be sure to check out the various rhubarb jams, preserves, and dessets I have listed below.

I collect cookbooks for a hobby. Also, many of my recipes can be found in church cookbooks, as well as our cities Buyer's Guide Cookbooks. Years past I have submitted numerous recipes to our cities newspaper, as I enjoy sharing them with others.
